I have always fought with myself to improve my mind in terms of knowledge.
I tried every little thing but I always ended up losing.
I could never understand the reason for this. Or maybe I made myself think that I don’t have a solution, or I have less understanding of my weak mind control.
I had big dreams and significant responsibilities ahead, yet I struggled with lethargy in pursuing them.
However, I soon realized that this issue wasn’t unique to me alone. I found a solution and understood how to overcome this obstacle.
Nevertheless, I observed that a majority of people experienced similar challenges, and some even faced more severe struggles.
Why does this happen? What is the underlying issue, and how do we help ourselves to overcome this problem?
There are three key elements, mastering the best of which leads to success in controlling our minds. Achieving mastery over our minds is synonymous with achieving success in life.
The First Step: BODY
Believing that you don’t have any time at all for anything is actually the most common excuse in life to avoid something that may be important to you.
A lazy and comfortable body can never lead you to success.
We often overlook the positive aspects of our lives because they present initial difficulties. However, we fail to understand that these initial challenges are meant to help us recognize the importance of those particular things and to make us stronger, preparing us for better things in the future.
These things are often more rewarding than what we attain comfortably and easily.
Conquering your body is the first and foremost step to achieving control over your mind.
A weak body is equivalent to a weak mind.
People often perceive ‘Mind’ and ‘Body’ as separate entities. In reality, they are directly proportional to each other, working together as if they are one.
So, when we all know how to deceive others, we should start by deceiving ourselves first. Yes, I mean it.
To make your mind work efficiently and effectively, you have to deceive it.
Your brain is like a child. It follows your instructions. If you tell it that you’ve done enough for today, it will generate thoughts related to comfort, sleep, or rest.
Therefore, you have to deceive your brain to enhance your mind’s performance.
In order to make your mind function optimally, you need to exercise and avoid staying in a comfortable position all the time.
Whenever you feel like you’ve reached your limit and can’t do more, you must tell your brain, ‘No, I need to push further to experience that rewarding sensation of exertion in my body.’
Satisfying muscle soreness is essential to keep your mind active and healthy. The best way to achieve mental well-being is through regular exercise.
Living in uncomfortable situations, which you should do most of the time, prepares your mind for any challenge.
Being in a constant state of comfort will shield you from the struggles that make your mind strong and resilient.
So at least for an hour a day, one should exercise to break that level of comfort in the mind every day.
The 2nd and 3rd Steps: KNOWLEDGE and EMOTIONS
These two steps, planning and execution, should ideally be separate. Combining them is not an effective approach.
Planning falls under the realm of knowledge, while execution is driven by emotions.
When you plan something, it’s crucial to avoid making emotional decisions, as emotions can hinder the planning process and lead to suboptimal outcomes.
If emotions are deeply intertwined with your planning, it becomes challenging to create a well-thought-out plan.
Imagine you are planning for someone else, like a close friend.
When your friend confides in you, you may not fully grasp their perspective, but you are there to support them when they need it.
However, when they seek your advice, you can provide a more rational viewpoint because it’s easier to think objectively at that moment because you’re not in that situation. You know what’s best for them.
Similarly, when you plan something for yourself, try to detach yourself emotionally.
Pretend you’re planning for someone else, enabling you to make impartial and sound decisions.
Often, when we plan, we seek comfort and avoid discomfort.
However, it’s essential to remember that we are dealing with our own minds, which require challenge and exercise rather than constant comfort.
Furthermore, it’s essential to grasp that a mind is like a child; it won’t learn if you engage in conflict with it.
You should find enjoyment in your endeavors; otherwise, cultivating a strong mind can become difficult. Battling your mind will lead to seeking comfort more often and being less consistent.
To achieve your goals, approach them in a way that allows you to derive satisfaction from the process. This will help ensure that your emotions don’t hinder your progress as you work towards them.
Last Words
Speaking about all these things is easy, as I mentioned earlier. However, implementing them in your life can be challenging. Set your emotions aside and take the plunge.
Remember, you are not your own enemy; your mind may simply be a bit inflexible. Approach your mind gently and calmly; it has the power to build you up and, conversely, to tear you down.
Resist the urge to battle against your own mind; it’s not in your best interest already!
Do these things and you’ll see changes in yourself :)
